May 22, Kankasanthurai: Sri Lanka Navy has safely brought 20 Sri Lankan fishermen released from Indian custody on Friday (20) to the Kankasanthurai harbor.
Indian Coast Guard Ship ICGS Vikram has handed over the fishermen and four fishing vessels to the naval officials at the Indo-Sri Lanka International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) in the seas north of Kankasanthurai.
Sri Lanka Naval Ship “Wickrema II” attached to the Northern Naval Command has escorted the fishermen sailing in their boats to the Kankasanthurai harbor.
India on May 17 released the 20 Sri Lankan fishermen who had been under arrest on charges of poaching.
The early release of these fishermen was secured by the speedy efforts taken by the Sri Lanka Government, Ministry of Fisheries, and Sri Lanka Navy, the Navy said.
