Sri Lanka Opposition Leader asks for one day to debate on the state of lawlessness in the country

Oct 15, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s Opposition and United National Party (UNP) Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe has requested Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa to allocate a day during the next sessions of parliament to debate on the state of lawlessness in the country.

Wickremasinghe has in writing requested the Speaker for a one day debate on the current situation in the country.

The request was made following the shooting incident in Mulleriyawa on the day of the local government elections that resulted in the death of four persons including Presidential Advisor Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra.

The letter had been sent to the Speaker on Wednesday (12).

However, the final decision on the debate would be made at the party leaders’ meeting scheduled for next week.
