Sri Lanka opposition party deputy leader to hold the meeting in Matale

Jan 07, Colombo: The Deputy Leader of Sri Lanka’s main opposition United National Party (UNP), Sajith Premadasa says his meeting with the UNP local government representatives to be held in the Matale party district office today will go on as planned and the rumors that it has been cancelled are false.

”I am hoping to meet all UNP local government representatives in the Matale district. At present various rumors are being spread that this meeting will not take place. That is false, because no one can prevent my efforts of building the United National Party,” he has said.

Local media reports said the UNP headquarters has informed the electoral organizers of Matale district to cancel the meeting summoned by Premadasa as it has been organized without proper authorization.

“As the Deputy Leader who was elected through a vote, I will take every step to ensure the betterment of the Party. I would like to state that no one can stop my political career or my serving the people. I would like to note that we will conduct tomorrow’s meeting, in spite of all the challenges,” Premadasa has vowed.

The Deputy Leader will also take part in a function Saturday at the Sri Bodhirukkaramaya Temple in Kawudupellela in Matale to distribute funds to help develop local temples and villages under the Sasunata Aruna program.
