Sri Lanka police to conduct a survey on drug addicts

Oct 02, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) has focused on holding a survey to ascertain the number of drug addicts in the country.

The PNB expects to collect data on drug addicts through the country’s police stations, village officers and other sources.

The data is to be used to calculate the amount of drugs used in the island and to combat drug smuggling.

None of the drugs related institutions have so far conducted a similar research and the real data is hitherto unknown.

The PNB which closely liaisons with other national and international agencies involved in drug law enforcement compiles a database of drug related cases that are reported from Island wide police stations and evaluates the extent of the drug threat to Sri Lanka. The Bureau takes necessary pro-active measures based on the data to nab drug cartels.
