Sri Lanka police to establish an expressway traffic division

June 19, Colombo: Sri Lanka police sources say measures are being taken to set up a special police division to handle traffic on the expressways that is to emerge into operation from the latter part of this year.

Police say the new division is needed since traffic regulations on the expressways are different from the normal traffic laws. New regulations are now been drafted by police for the expressways, police say.

The new division of expressway traffic is to be administered by a Deputy Inspector General.

Police officers are to be given a special training to handle expressway traffic.

Sri Lanka will open the new Southern Expressway from Kottawa in Colombo district to Pinnaduwa in Galle for traffic next month.
