Sri Lanka police to recruit 150 new canine trainers

Sept 08, Colombo: Sri Lanka Police has planned to recruit 150 police officers to the department as canine handlers.

They are to be assigned of taking care of the police dogs and training them. The experience in the sector will be considered foremost for recruitment, the Police Department says.

Sri Lanka police say it plans to import 100 dogs for its services.

Police Department sources say that the canine units will also be established outside Colombo.

Police kennels have been established to provide better service to the public with the assistance of dogs. Sri Lanka Police use the canines to track criminals and to assist investigations of crime, explosives and drugs.
