Sri Lanka polls chief meets party representatives

July 01, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya met with the election officials and the representatives of political parties contesting the local government election at the Elections Secretariat in Rajagiriya this afternoon.

Representatives of all political parties contesting the July 23rd election for the remaining 63 local government bodies attended today’s discussion with the Elections Chief.

Following the meeting, General Secretary of the ruling United Peoples’ Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Minister Susil Premajayantha said that the party secretaries were informed of the election process and the measures taken to conduct a free and fair poll.

The discussion also educated the party representatives of violating election laws and according to the DIG of elections no serious complaints had been reported yet.
