Apr 08, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s controversial Post Master General has been stripped of all his powers as protests by the postal employees demanding his removal escalated.
Minister of Postal Services Jeevan Kumaratunga has told local media that the PMG is stripped of all power pending an investigation and newly-appointed Secretary to the Postal Ministry, Hemasiri Fernando has the authority to handle the PMG’s responsibilities.
A coalition of Postal Department trade unions recently held a march in Colombo against the PMG and urged the government to remove him or to face strike.
