Sri Lanka President addresses Ministerial Summit of conference on sanitation

Apr 06, Colombo: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa Wednesday opened the Ministerial Summit of the Fourth South Asia Conference on Sanitation (SACOSAN – IV) at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel in Colombo.

Addressing the foreign and local attendees, the President has said that it is prudent for the developed nations to spend their defense expenditure for eradication of poverty and other hardships being faced by the people throughout the world so that a meaningful development could be established.


President Rajapaksa has remarked that meaningful development is not merely economic development and economic development should benefit all the people in a country.

The President has pointed out that the government of Sri Lanka is committed to achieve the millennium development goals of minimizing poverty on a national level by 2015 and providing better sanitation facilities and conservation of water by 2020.

The Minister of Water Supply and Drainage Dinesh Gunawardena, Ministers responsible for sanitation in South Asia, Ambassadors, Members of the Government and Non-Governmental Organizations and students participated in this event.
