Sri Lanka President leaves for Australia to attend CHOGM

Oct 24, Colombo: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa has left for Australia today to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

The President is leading a delegation to the three-day meeting in Perth, Australia beginning October 28 – 30, the government media unit announced.

Sri Lanka, which is scheduled to host the biennial event in 2013 has come under criticism from human right organizations.

Canada’s Prime Minister Stephen Harper has vowed to boycott the 2013 meeting if Sri Lanka does not make progress on the issue of human rights.
