Sri Lanka President returns home from Singapore

Feb 17, Colombo: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has returned to the country a short while ago after completing a successful tour in Singapore, Government Media Unit said.

President Rajapaksa accompanied by First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa visited Singapore from February 14-17 at the invitation of President of Singapore Dr. Tony Tan Keng Yam.

During his three-day official visit President Rajapaksa held bilateral meeting with Singapore President and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Defence Minister Dr. Ng Eng Hen and Minister of Community Development, Youth and Sports Chan Chun Sing.

President Rajapaksa held talks with the Singapore Defence Minister focusing on the measures to curtail human smuggling and drug trafficking in the region.

During his visit Sri Lanka Board of Investment (BOI) and Singapore Business Federation signed a MOU to promote investment relations between the two countries.

Under the MoU, the two countries are expected to strengthen the institutional relations between them.

The President also visited the Singapore Air Show 2012 and the Singapore Botanic Gardens where new orchid was named as Dendrobium Mahinda Shiranthi to honor his visit to Singapore.

Minister of External Affairs Prof. G. L. Peiris, Member of Parliament Sajin de Vass Gunawardena, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga, Governor of the Central Bank Ajith Nivard Cabraal also accompanied the President.
