Nov 22, Colombo: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa will submit the report of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) to the parliament next month, President’s Media Director General, Bandula Jayasekera told the local media.
The Commission, appointed by the President to probe the three-decade long armed conflict with the Tamil Tiger terrorists, handed over its 400-page report to the President on Sunday (November 20).
Earlier this month the President said that he will present the much-awaited report of the Commission to the parliament to make it a public document.
The United Kingdom yesterday called on the Sri Lankan government to publicly release the report of the Commission.
Foreign and Commonwealth Office Minister for South Asia of the British Government, Minister Alistair Burt asked the government to seize this “important opportunity to demonstrate its commitment to national reconciliation and accountability.”
