Sri Lanka President tours Colombo roads without security to monitor VIP driving

Mar 23, Colombo: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa has navigated the streets of the Sri Lankan capital Colombo today without security and backup vehicles to monitor vehicular conduct of VIPs on the road, the state news agency LankaPuwath reported.

“While the President was proceeding towards the Parliament Road, a government Minister’s security convoy nearly brushed on the President’s vehicle,” the agency website said.

“I personally came to see the trouble these VIPs are giving the ordinary people on the road. See how that fellow is driving that convoy nearly hitting me,” The angry President has reportedly said.

Last week President Rajapaksa has warned his Ministers not to cause problems to the public on the road driving fast as he had received many reports on VIP vehicles hitting pedestrians.
