Dec 28, Colombo: The governing United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) of Sri Lanka is to cancel the party membership of the UPFA local government members who had voted against the budgets for 2012 presented by the local government bodies led by the party.
UPFA General Secretary, Minister Susil Premajayantha says that arrangements are currently being made to remove these errant members from the party.
Premajayantha has said the letters to six local government members from the Dodangoda and Bope-Poddala Predeshiya Sabhas informing them of their removal from the party have already been prepared.
He has observed that the letters would be sent once approval received from the SLFP General Secretary and Minister Maithripala Sirisena.
According to Premajayantha, he has already asked the heads of the other local government bodies to provide information about the councilors who had voted to defeat the budgets presented by the governing party.
