Sri Lanka Tamil party has to answer for LTTE atrocities at UNHCR

Feb 24, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s major Tamil political party, Tamil National Alliance (TNA) is answerable for the human rights violations committed by the vanquished terrorist group Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), a government minister has said.

Addressing a media briefing Economic development Minister Basil Rajapaksa has said that if the TNA participates in the UN Human Rights Council’s sessions in Geneva next week, it will have to answer for the human rights violations carried out by the LTTE terrorists.

The Minister revealed that the government has received reports that relatives of Tamil politicians slain by the LTTE have already left for Geneva to participate in the UNHCR sessions and the TNA would have to answer them.

The Minister has noted that the government was more concerned on human rights during the course of the humanitarian operation and it has been taking a serious effort to promote reconciliation and ethnic harmony, which is also not a mystery to the world.
