Sri Lanka to amend laws on public performances

Nov 20, Colombo: The Sri Lankan government is to bring new laws that may allow restrictions on teledrama and musical videos.

The draft amendment to the Sri Lanka Performances Control Board Act is to be discussed in the cabinet at the next sitting, says the Minister of Culture and Art Affairs T.B. Ekanayake.

The Minister stated that the new laws will pave way to new dimensions in art of Sri Lanka.

So far, the Public Performance Control Board viewed, granted approval or censored only movies and drama before they were to be shown to public.

The Minister stated that the new laws are introduced on the directions of the President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
