Sri Lanka to celebrate 50 years of cultural relations with Japan

July 27, Colombo: The Embassy of Japan is to launch a ‘Japanese Cultural Month’ from 5th of August to 5th of September to celebrate 50 years of cultural relations with Sri Lanka.

During the month several cultural events have been planned in Colombo and hill capital of Kandy to disseminate information on Japanese culture and lifestyle as well as its popular performing arts and aesthetics and to enhance the friendly relations between the two countries, the Japanese Embassy said in a press release.

A contemporary film festival film festival, featuring seven contemporary films including two animated movies, has been organized from August 5th to 8th at the National Film Corporation Auditorium and a two-day Cultural Exhibition will open on August 20th at the Lionel Wendt arts theatre.

The Cultural Exhibition will feature Ikebana, Bonsai, Origami and Calligraphy together with demonstrations of these typically Japanese arts.

A Yosakoi Dance team will perform in the, E.O.E. Pereira Theatre at the University of Peradeniya on August 25th and at the New Town Hall in Colombo on August 27th.

Admission to Japanese Cultural Month events are free of charge to the public and will be on first come first served basis, the Embassy said.
