Sri Lanka to get a loan from Spanish bank to construct flyover

Feb 23, Colombo: The Sri Lankan government yesterday received approval from the Cabinet to get a loan from a Spanish bank to construct a flyover in a major town of Western Province.

The Cabinet approved the proposal by the President, as the Minister of Finance and Planning, to enter into a loan agreement with a Bank in Spain for financial assistance for the construction of flyover at the Veyangoda railway crossing, the acting government spokesman, Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena said today.

Veyangoda, 21 miles north of Colombo is a major town in the Gampaha District and a major intersection point for the main railway lines to the upcountry as well as to the Northern and Eastern Provinces.

Construction of the flyover at Veyangoda will help to overcome the traffic congestion due to the closing of rail gates at frequent intervals, the government says.
