Sri Lanka university non-academic staff to decide on union action today

Nov 16, Colombo: A coalition of Sri Lanka’s university non-academic staff trade unions will meet today to decide a stern trade union action against the failure to resolve the salary anomalies, trade union sources said.

The non-academic staff including the administrative officers is likely to decide a strike action, trade unions say.

A spokesman of the trade union coalition told media that they held protest demonstrations on August 04 before the University Grants Commission and on September 07 before the universities.

A sick note campaign was held on October 12 and a token strike was held on November 02. Two discussions were held with Salaries and Cadre Commission but none of those actions have been fruitful in seeking a solution to their problem, the trade union spokesman says.

The trade union says that they represent around 10,000 employees from staff grades to minor employees.
