July 15, Colombo: Sri Lanka Federation of University Teachers’ Associations (FUTA) will have a discussion with the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance Dr. P.B. Jayasundara next week, says the Chairman of the FUTA Dr. Nirmal Ranjith Devasiri.
The discussion will focus on the salary scales of the university academics, he said. The FUTA agreed to a proposal from the government to increase the salary of senior professors up to Rs. 115,000 at a discussion held on July 13 at the Temple Trees.
However, the salary increase for the other university dons were not discussed and the matter will be taken to discussion at the next meeting, Dr. Devasiri said.
He also said that the date the salary increase will be effective will also be discussed at this discussion.
The government proposal is to be set forth for approval of the membership of the FUTA and the trade union action will continue until then, says Dr. Devasiri.
