Sri Lanka, Viet Nam to enhance ties in agriculture

July 14, Hanoi: Sri Lanka and Viet Nam have decided to enhance the bilateral ties between the two countries on agriculture.

The agriculture ministers of the two countries have met in Hanoi on Wednesday and agreed to improve cooperation in agricultural trade, development, and communication, specifically the exchange of scientific and technological information relating to black pepper, coffee, rambutan and mango, Viet Nam News Service reported.

During their meeting, Sri Lankan Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena and Vietnamese Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat have reviewed the implementation of a memorandum of understanding signed in November 2006 and discussed plans for the near future.

The two ministers have agreed to create a Joint Agricultural Coordinating Committee that will meet every two years to propose, plan, and implement agriculture development programmes.
