Sri Lanka wins second ODI against England by 69 runs to level series

July 01, Leeds: Sri Lanka won the second One-Day International (ODI) against England at Headingley Stadium in Leeds to day to level the series 1-1.

After setting to bat by England, opening batsman Mahela Jayawardena scored an impressive 144 from 150 balls before bowled out by Graeme Swann to set Sri Lanka post a formidable goal of 310 for England to chase.

Another 69 from Kumar Sangakkara brought Sri Lanka to 309 for 5 in 50 overs. The duo Mahela and Sangakkara set a third-wicket stand of 159 in 29.1 overs.

Angelo Mathews hit 46 out of 30 balls after Sangakkara was bowled out by Swann to set England the heavy target.

Suranga Lakmal and Suraj Randiv took three wickets each and Jeewan Mendis took the scalps of two more. Lasith Malinga bowled out James Anderson for nothing.

England was all bowled out for 240 in 45.5 overs.

Sri Lanka team included Dinesh Chandimal to replace Sanath Jayasuriya who retired from international cricket following the first ODI at the Oval which Sri Lanka lost disastrously.
