Attacking own party headquarters by UNP members termed as Setting A Bad Precedence

Dec 24, Colombo: A Sri Lankan government minister says the main opposition United National Party (UNP) has shown how it would behave if given the power of a government by the attack on its headquarters, Sirikotha.

Housing and Construction Minister Wimal Weerawansa says the UNP has leaders who instigate supporters to attack the party headquarters.

He says the party members and leaders did not behave in a responsible manner.

“Did the leaders and members behave in a proper manner? They attacked the party headquarters because they oppose Ranil Wickremasinghe’s re-appointment as party leader,” he has observed.

According to Weerawansa, people have to think twice before handing the country’s power to such a party.

He has added that Sajith Premadasa has been successful in removing one barrier that was in his way to becoming a future leader of the party by getting Jayasuriya defeated at the election for a party leader.
