Feb 05, Colombo: The regulations on the structure of fees levied on vehicles that commute on the Southern Expressway are to be taken up for debate in the Sri Lankan Parliament this week.
The parliament is scheduled to debate the regulations on Thursday (9) and the levies are to vary between Rs. 150 and Rs. 2,000.
The toll would be determined according to the distance traveled and the type of vehicle.
Meanwhile, drivers who violate the regulations will be produced before court and fined between Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 50,000.
The regulations would be discussed under the National Thoroughfares Act.
The local media has also reported that the Presidential and Prime Ministerial convoys will be exempt from the payment of the user fee on the Southern Expressway.
