Sri Lankan President asks minister and LG members to resolve conflict according to party’s code of conduct

Jan 12, Colombo: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has ordered the disciplinary committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) to resolve the conflict between governing party members in the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha and SLFP Kelaniya organizer, Public Affairs and Public Relations Minister Mervyn Silva according to the party’s code of conduct.

SLFP General Secretary, Minister Maithripala Sirisena said the President has already issued the necessary directives to the members of the SLFP disciplinary committee.

The party leadership has asked that the conflict be resolved according to the party’s code of conduct after both parties had complained about each other to the SLFP.

The President has issued a directive to call both parties for a discussion in order to reach an amicable settlement before the matter gets out of hand.

According to Sirisena, if both parties were not pleased with the solution provided by the party, they could seek justice by taking the matter before the police, judiciary or the Bribery Commission.

The local councilors are to hand in a formal complaint listing 12 charges against the Minister to the SLFP General Secretary today.
