Aug 26, Colombo: A show of traditional martial arts called Angampora will be held in Jana Kala Sevana, at Battaramulla today at 5 pm.
The show is organized by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and Art under a concept of the Culture and Aesthetic Affairs Minister T.B. Ekanayake.
The show will include drum playing, massaging, fighting with clubs and other weapons, traditional sword fighting, march rhythms, body armor, group fighting, thriller fights, fire-fighting and somersaults etc.
Several schools of traditional martial arts are to participate in today’s show.
The traditional Angampora is the fighting style taught to Sri Lankan soldiers to fight the colonial invaders. During colonial rule the fighting style was banned and later this style of fighting was replaced by oriental fighting styles such as Karate, Judo and Tae-Kwon-Do.
