Sri Lankan University students staging Satyagraha attacked

Jan 07, Kotte: Students of Sri Lanka’s University of Sri Jayawardenapura who have launched a satyagraha campaign calling for the removal of University’s Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. N.A.L. Karunaratne have been attacked by an unidentified group, the police said.

Two students staging the protest have been attacked by the group when they have walked into a restaurant for dinner Friday night, a student representative of the University has told the media.

The attacked students have been admitted to the Colombo South Teaching Hospital.

Police spokesman SP Ajith Rohana has said that a a special police team has been assigned to investigate the attack.

The Police have tightened security in the vicinity of the campus and armed forces personnel have also been deployed in the area.

The Satyagraha campaign launched requesting the removal of the Vice Chancellor as well as the police presence in the campus is to continue today also.
