Nov 23, Colombo: The government of South Korea has provided US$ 36 million for the payment of pensions due to Sri Lankans who served in that country.
An agreement to provide pensions to Sri Lankan workers who contributed to the National Pensions Scheme in Korea took place at the Ministry of Foreign Employment Development and Welfare, state-run TV reported.
Director General of the Korean Pensions Department B. Siyong Hung and Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Employment Nissanka N. Wijeratne have signed the agreement
Over 14,000 Sri Lankans will eligible to receive the pension funds according to the Korean National Pensions Service.
At the occasion Sri Lanka Minister of Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare, Dilan Perera has said the agreement would allow about 20,000 Sri Lankans employed in Korea to receive pension benefits in the future.
