Sri Lankans in Hawaii celebrate 64th Independence Day

Feb 07, Honolulu: Sri Lankan expatriates in Hawaii celebrated the 64th Independence Day of Sri Lanka in collaboration with the Sri Lankan Consulate in Hawaii on February 04 in Honolulu.

The Sri Lankan Consulate and the ‘Sri Lankans of Hawaii’ organized a cultural program and a dinner for the event that was commenced with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp.

The Honorary Consul in Hawaii then delivered the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s Independence Day message.

Children of expatriate Sri Lankans narrated a story on the history of Sri Lanka’s independence from British rule, sang a patriotic song and provided entertainment during the follow up dinner organized by the community.
