Sri Lanka’s acting IGP to be made permanent in the post

June 16, Colombo: Senior Deputy Inspector General (SDIG) N.K. Illangakoon is to be appointed as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Sri Lanka.

Illangakoon, who is acting as the IGP is to be promoted as the Inspector General after the official retirement of the former IGP Mahinda Balasuriya scheduled for tomorrow.

Balasuriya handed in the resignation on June 1, admitting responsibility for the killing of a Free Trade Zone employee in a clash with the police.

Illangakoon will be the 33rd Inspector Generals of Police of Sri Lanka.
