Sri Lanka’s First Lady visits the McCarton School for autistic children

Sept 21, New York: Sri Lanka’s First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, who is accompanying President Mahinda Rajapaksa to the 66th session of UN General Assembly, visited the McCarton School in New York for autistic children on Tuesday as a part of an event organized by the UN Secretariat.

The First Lady later toured the Eden Two School in Staten Island in New York. A special function was organized at this school to welcome her and several other first ladies touring the school. Mrs. Rajapaksa presented gifts to the children of Eden Two School.

The US Government-sponsored McCarton School provides a comprehensive, rigorous schedule that combines educational and therapeutic programs with structured peer interaction focusing on play and social skills for autistic children by using an integrated one-to-one model of therapy.
