Sri Lanka’s HRC launches awareness programmes to educate public of human rights

June 06, Colombo:  The Human Rights Commission (HRC) of Sri Lanka is to launch an awareness programme to educate people about human rights.

The HRC has identified that most Sri Lankans lacked a proper knowledge about human rights.

The HRC has held an awareness workshop in Anuradhapura for the civil society activists in the North Central Province.

HRC’s North Central Coordination Officer Kumudini Vithana has said the Commission hopes to create awareness about human rights in the rural areas.

According to Vithana, people needed to know that the HRC assisted people whenever their human rights have been infringed even by the state.
