Mar 13, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s Marxist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) today said the government was using the launching of agriculture programmes as an election gimmick to mislead the masses.
JVP politburo member and parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake told a press conference that the government launched the “Api Wavamu Rata Nagamu” agriculture programme during the last elections spending millions of public funds and has now launched another programme called “Divi Neguma” aimed at the forthcoming elections.
Dissanayake questioned as to the outcome of the “Api Wavamu Rata Nagamu” programme, as the prices of food items have seen a drastic increase even after such a programme was launched.
He said that a kilo of green chilies has gone up to Rs. 600 while coconuts had to be imported to the country.
According to Dissanayake, the government had to explain to the people the outcome of the “Api Wavamu Rata Nagamu” programme, as it was launched with public funds.
