Sri Lanka’s NFF to hold a protest outside the UN over Libyan issue

Mar 24, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s National Freedom Front (NFF) Leader and Minister Wimal Weerawansa has said his party would hold a protest outside the United Nations office in Colombo against the organization’s “biased” behavior towards Libya.

Weerawansa has told the media that the party condemned the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon against his support towards the United States and Britain.

He has said that the US and Britain were trying to create a situation similar to that of Iraq in Libya.

According to Weerawansa, it was up to the Libyan public to decide on how to resolve internal issues in Libya.

The UN Chief Wednesday called again for an immediate end to violence by all parties, in accordance with Security Council resolutions 1970 and 1973, and for the responsibility to protect civilians.

Coalition airstrikes and missiles targeted Libyan military forces for a fifth day on Wednesday to protect civilians in Libya from Muammar Gaddafi’s forces.

Gaddafi’s regime meanwhile has alleged that dozens of civilians have been killed in the coalition attacks.
