Sri Lanka’s state-owned People’s Bank celebrates golden jubilee

July 01, Colombo: People’s Bank the state owned bank of Sri Lanka celebrated its golden jubilee today at Temple Trees under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The Governor of the Central Bank, Ajith Nivard Cabraal presented the President, who is also the Finance Minister, with a silver commemorative coin in the denomination of Rs 1000 issued to mark the 50th anniversary of the People’s Bank.


Minister of Postal Services Jeevan Kumaratunga presented the Commemoration Stamp and the First Day Cover issued to mark the occasion to the President.

Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning, Gethanjana Gunawardena, Secretary to the Ministry of Finance and Planning Dr. P.B. Jayasundara, and the Chairman of the People’s Bank W. Karunajeewa are also pictured here.
