Suspended pro-reformists of Sri Lanka’s main opposition yet to inform of their charges

Oct 29, Colombo: Members of Sri Lanka’s main opposition United National Party (UNP) who are to face a disciplinary inquiry are yet to receive the charge sheets.

The UNP Working Committee last week decided to hold a disciplinary inquiry against UNP Matara District parliamentarian Buddhika Pathirana and Western Provincial Councilor Shiral Lakthilleka.

Lakthilleka and Pathirana both told ColomboPage that they have not yet received the charge sheets.

The two law makers are active members of the pro-reforms group led by co-deputy leader Sajith Premadasa.

Lakthilleka said that he did not accept the charges of the disciplinary committee since it was biased.

He added that legal action would be considered after receiving the charge sheets and if it states that a disciplinary inquiry is being held.

According to Lakthilleka, Pathirana and he have so far only heard of the Working Committee decision through the media.

Pathirana also said that his next action would be decided after receiving the charge sheet.
