Tamil community expected to vote at today’s Colombo MC elections

Oct 08, Colombo: Mano Ganeshan, the mayoral candidate of Sri Lanka’s Democratic People’s Front (DPF) for the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC), said the Tamil community has expressed enthusiasm in casting their votes at today’s elections.

Ganeshan told ColomboPage soon after casting his vote that he had already heard that a large number of people were making their way to the polling stations to cast their votes.

He said that todays election is the first CMC election to be held after the war and that the real reconciliation process would commence from it.

“The Tamil people have the confidence to come out and vote after the war,” he said.

He added that the DPF is an alternative to the governing United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) and main opposition United National Party (UNP) for the people who want democracy established in the country.
