Feb 24, Colombo: Sri Lanka Ministry of Economic Development will launch the third phase of the country’s domestic agriculture program next month.
The Divi Neguma Phase III will be launched on March 05th, the Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa announced Thursday at a special press conference held at the Ministry.
The Divi Naguma phase III House to house Campaign will commence on March 1st to inform the people of the program’s launch.
“We need to see that the rural majority are more financially stable, healthy and living being benefited through rural development programs such as Divi Neguma,” Minister Rajapaksa has said addressing the media.
The Ministry is aiming at developing the programme to build the capacity of local growers to be able to export their products. The Divi Neguma programme would also collect the harvests directly from farmers.
According to the government the first phase of the programme launched in March 2011 under the theme “A Self Reliant Household -A wonderful Motherland” targeting one million families was a huge success.
The second phase of the Divi Neguma program to establish 2.1 million economic units that promote domestic agriculture projects to make island wide households self-sufficient was launched in October 2011.
