Two apparel factories to be set up in former war zone of Sri Lanka

Jan 09, Colombo: Sri Lanka under the patronage of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has laid the foundation stone to establish two apparel factories in the former war zone of Mannar.

The US$ 5 million apparel factory was the first Board of Investment (BOI) approved project for the Mannar Industrial Zone.

Timex and Fergasam Group (TFG), a leading apparel producer in Sri Lanka will invest in the project to set up two apparel factories in the industrial zone. The two factories will be TFG’s 17th and 18th production units.

The first factory would lead to generation of 1,200 jobs, while the second would create 800 jobs. The first factory is to start production by mid-October this year.

TFG which supplies to top labels such as Marks Spencer, Victoria’s Secret, House of Frazer, Diesel, HM and SUZI Chin is responsible for US$ 60 million worth of exports from Sri Lanka.

The Timex and Fergasam Group, employs 8000 workers with offices in the U.S.A, Hong Kong and manufacturing plants in Sri Lanka, India Bangladesh.
