Two police teams to probe attack on Sri Lanka’s major Tamil party

June 17, Colombo: Sri Lanka police say two police teams have been deployed to probe the incident of disrupting a political meeting of Sri Lanka’s major Tamil constituent Tamil National Alliance (TNA).

The meeting was to be held yesterday at Alaveddi in Jaffna peninsula and six TNA MPs were to participate in the meeting.

TNA Jaffna district MP S. Sridharan said that the aim of the meeting was to introduce the party candidates contesting the local government election.

TNA lodged a complaint at Thellipalai police station stating that an unknown group clad in military like costumes disrupted the meeting.

According to the TNA MP, several people who had participated at the event were injured due to the attack.
