US Assistant Secretary Blake postpones visit to Sri Lanka due to Irene

Aug 28, Colombo: The United States Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Robert O. Blake, Jr. who was scheduled to travel to Sri Lanka tomorrow has postponed his visit due to the Hurricane Irene that is battering the eastern seaboard of the United States, the US Embassy in Colombo said.

Blake was scheduled to arrive in Colombo on Monday for a three-day visit.

During his stay he was expected to meet with Sri Lankan government officials, civil society representatives, university students and political leaders, the State Department said Thursday.

The Embassy has not announced a date for a rescheduled visit.
