Dec 24, Kalutara: Sri Lanka’s war veterans and families of soldiers who lost their lives, received houses at a ceremony held in Kalutara Saturday under the patronage of the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
President Rajapaksa symbolically handed over the keys for 29 houses that were built under the seventh phase of the ‘Api Venuven Api’ housing project to the Ranaviru families at the ceremony held at the Rajawatta grounds in Kalutara.
The 4th Engineers Corps of Sri Lanka Army has undertaken the construction works of the housing project in Kalutara district.
At the event 25 war heroes of the Army, two from the Navy and two from Air Force received keys from the President.
The wife and the child of army soldier K.P.R. Sandaruwan, who was killed in action, received the keys of their house from the President.
President Rajapaksa also presented gifts to the children of the Ranaviru families.
Ministers Kumara Welgama, Rajitha Senaratne, Deputy Ministers Rohitha Abeygunawardena, Nirmala Kothalawala, Secretary to the Defence Ministry Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Commanders of the Security Forces and other senior officers participated in the occasion.
