Jan 03, Colombo: The Working Committee of Sri Lanka’s main opposition United National Party (UNP) is to work according to a set agenda from this year without side stepping from it.
UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake told a press conference that work related to the party had been affected in the past since the Working Committee had to spend time discussing the internal conflicts that are outside the Committee’s boundaries.
Attanayake stressed that such incidents would not take place in future.
He added that electoral organizers would also be given agendas and time schedules to follow.
The UNP secretary also observed that all attempts made by him to prevent a poll for posts in the party failed since none of the members were willing to withdraw from the race.
According to Attanayake, elections for office bearers could lead to divisions in the party and that everyone should now work together since the appointments have been made.
