Nov 27, Colombo: Southern Provincial Councilor of Sri Lanka’s main opposition United National Party (UNP), Maithri Gunaratne says that he has evidence to prove all charges leveled by him against party leader Ranil Wickremasinghe.
Gunaratne, an Attorney-at-law has handed over a complaint with 20 charges against Wickremasinghe and his conduct that has resulted in the violation of the party Constitution.
He said the party is yet to respond to the letter handed by him calling for an independent inquiry to probe the charges against the party leader.
However, one of the charges leveled against the party leader about his sexual preferences affecting the party’s political progress has caused much controversy.
Gunaratne has said that he had evidence to prove his charge.
He has noted that the main witness in the charge against Wickremasinghe is Matara district parliamentarian Buddhika Pathirana who was suspended by the party leadership recently.
He has added that there are several other witnesses who are ready to come forward when an inquiry is held into the complaint.
According to Gunaratne, the charges made by him are not frivolous and he has evidence to prove each one of them.
