Annual Madhu Church Festival begins in Northern Sri Lanka

Aug 06, Mannar: The annual festival of the most sacred Our Lady of Madhu Church commenced today in the Manna district of Northern Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka’s Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith has commenced the festival with officiating the evening service with the participation of the Bishops including Rt. Rev. Dr. Ponniah Joseph Auxiliary Bishop of Trincomalee -Batticaloa Diocese.

The Ministry of Transport has arranged special bus and train service for the convenience of the devotees.

Beginning from Saturday Sri Lanka Railways will deploy three extra trains in addition to daily trains between Colombo Fort to Medawachchiya until August 15. Also a direct train from Matara to Medawachchiya and back will operate daily. Extra compartments will be added to the trains that are operated from Matara to Medawachchiya.

Meanwhile Sri Lanka Transport Board, has arranged 15 buses to be operated between Thalaimannar, Mannar and Madhu. The SLTB has deployed around 30 buses from areas such as Negombo, Wennappuwa, Chilaw, and Jaela.

The SLTB together with the Railway Department has introduced special packages for devotees.

A special security plan has also being implemented.
