Mar 25, Colombo: The Sri Lankan government has decided to appoint an inter-ministerial committee to coordinate all ministries, government, and non -government institutions contributing island wide to the construction of houses.
The government says currently several ministries including the ministries of Housing, Lands, Provincial Councils, Defence, Economic Development, and host of other government agencies are directly and indirectly contributing to the construction of houses and the government hopes to bring them under a common policy to work in an integrated manner.
The Cabinet has granted approval to appoint the Inter-Ministerial Committee according to a proposal submitted by the Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa.
The committee is tasked to carry out an integrated implementation of the national housing program under Janasevana National Program.
The Cabinet has given approval to appoint the senior ministers of the relevant ministries as permanent members of the proposed committee.
