Jan 12, Colombo: The Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani will arrive in Sri Lanka on January 15th for a two-day official visit on the invitation of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the government announced Thursday.
The Emir will lead a delegation consisting of high ranking officials of the Qatari government and several leading businessmen of Qatar.
On arrival, the leader of Qatar will be greeted by his Sri Lankan counterpart President Rajapaksa and accorded a Sri Lankan Navy Guard of Honour and a 21-Gun Salute by the Sri Lankan Army.
The Emir is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with President Rajapaksa at the Presidential Secretariat.
“Several agreements covering improvement of bilateral relations between the two countries in the fields of economic, trade, investment, cultural and industrial sectors are also scheduled to be signed during the visit of the Emir of Qatar,” a government media note said.
Sri Lankan President held discussions with the visiting head of the state in September last year at the 66th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
