Aug 06, Colombo: Sri Lanka police will begin the training of 201 apprentice Sub Inspectors from tomorrow, police sources say.
The new recruits of the lower level staff grade of the police service are to undergo a training of one year.
Sri Lanka police say that for the first time in the police history of the island, 22 graduates were recruited to the service as Sub Inspectors. Police previously recruited graduates only for the Assistant Superintendent of Police position which is higher than the Sub Inspector.
The minimum educational qualification for the Sub Inspector position is six passes with four credits, two of which for math and language, at the GCE (Ordinary Level) Examination in one sitting.
Among the 201 officials recruited, 22 have reportedly obtained distinctions for all subjects at GCE (Advanced Level) examination.
