Mar 31, Colombo: Sri Palee Campus of University of Colombo launched Sri Lanka’s first university radio this morning under the patronage of Colombo University Vice Chancellor, Kshanika Hiriburegama.
Rector of the campus Dr. Tudor Weerasinghe said that it will be broadcast on 96.1 FM.
The campus radio station is run by a non-profit organization associated with the University.
The campus community radio station is experimenting with the integration with web-based forms of radio broadcasting, podcasting and FM broadcasting, authorities said.
The campus station programmes are produced primarily by volunteers who are either students or members of the community at large. The training of professional broadcasts is its primary objective, the campus says.
The Sri Palee Campus is located in the Kalutara district at Wewala, Horana has two faculties – the Faculty of Performing Arts and the Faculty of Mass Media.
