Dec 01, Colombo: Lawyers of former Commander of the Sri Lanka Army Sarath Fonseka Thursday filed an appeal against the verdict of the controversial White Flags case.
The appeal was handed over to the registrar of the High Court and is to be taken up for hearing at the Supreme Court.
Anoma Fonseka, DNA MPs, Vijitha Herath, Tiran Alles and Arjuna Ranatunga were present when the appeal was handed over by the lawyers.
A trial at bar of the Colombo High Court on November 18th sentenced Fonseka to three years in prison in the White Flag case.
In the “White Flag” case, former Army chief Sarath Fonseka is accused of telling the English weekend ‘Sunday Leader’ newspaper that Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa had ordered to shoot the surrendering Tamil Tiger cadres during the final stages of the war.
